Ordinary Americans Make a Difference in the Lives of Former Foster Care Children
The Orphan Foundation of America recognizes the difficulties that youth in care face when making the decision to attend secondary education. Not only is the application process a daunting task, but finding a way to fund a secondary education can be most discouraging; the Orphan Foundation of American recognizes that the lack of familial support further exacerbates these stresses. Therefore the organization provides millions of dollars in funding each year to assist youth in care to realize their collegiate dreams. Additionally, the OFA offers emotional and social support to ensure youth in cares’ success.

  • Ask employers to sponsor an OFA scholarship that will cover the cost of tuition, books and approved living expenses for a student struggling to make ends meet and achieve academically at the same time.
  • Hosting interns at companies through OFA's InternAmerica program, which helps youth in care gain real-world job experience and germinate their careers.
  • Encourage companies to support the OFA Care Package Program through a cash or in-kind donation, or organize an event to make care packages for students.
  • Participate in OFA's Red Scarf Project by knitting a red scarf. From September through December, the organization collects red scarves to include in its Valentine's Day care packages.
